Whether you want to be able to go out with your friends on a girls night, purchase a new outfit from J-Crew or whether you’re one of the more responsible students that wants to start paying back on student loans and building a savings account, the only way you’re going to be able to do it is if you get yourself a J-O-B.

I know your concerns as a college student is one, do I have the skills or the experience to get a job? And two, when I do find a job, how will I be able to balance both a full college schedule and work?

While you can go out and find yourself a traditional job at Starbucks, Target, a random call center or in a restaurant, those places aren’t always the most flexible with time.

Some of my closest friends opted out of that because they wanted to control their time and schedule. What they did instead was create their own jobs online using the skills they already had.

Curious? In this episode of Soulful Studies Sunday I am going to share with you three different online jobs that you can do as a college student with the skills you already have.

Online Job # 1: Creating and offering a service

The great thing about this kind of online job is that you can cater it to what you enjoy doing or are already good at. Are you into video editing? Great, why not do some freelance work as a online video editor? Are you an English major? You can do some freelance work as a content editor or creator. Do you love social media? Why not become a part-time social media manager? Are you really good at organization and project management? Then you can do what my friend Indigo Colton did and become a virtual assistant.

Online Job #2: Sell Your Stuff

This one is for all my creative girls out there who were blessed with artistic minds and hands. If you’re an artist, photographer, jewelry maker, vintage clothing connoisseur or even make your own natural body butter, why not sell your creations online?  My friend Paige Poppe who is a water color artist started doing this in college part-time with painting skateboard decks. She just graduated from architecture school and instead of going out to find a job she’d hate,  she now sells her paintings all over the U.S and often travels to setup pop-up art shows.

Online Job #3: Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is when you earn income by recommending, promoting or suggesting someone else’s product or service. In nursing school I was able to earn an extra $500/month using affiliate marketing for the company that created Insanity and P90X. I was using their programs to lose the freshman 30 and documenting my journey on Youtube. My testimonial drew a lot of interest from my subscribers and they wanted to learn more about what I was using and purchase it for themselves. Every time a girl used my link I earned 25% of that sale.

There is a right and wrong way to do affiliate marketing but if this is something that interests you, at the end of June I will be hosting a College Girlboss Internship teaching college girls how I was successful with affiliate marketing. If you’re interested, you can apply for the internship here.

I also created a College Girlboss Resource List that shares some more tips and places you can learn more about creating your own online job using one of the options I mentioned above. You can download that resource list below.
